Paul Gilbert Mr Big Merciless Solo - Guitar Lesson - Part 1 of 3 - Guitar Breakdown - Guitar instruction and Breakdown.
PABLO GILBERTO !!! AGAIN !!! :)
We're back with another awesome guitar solo from Paul Gilbert off of his first self titled Mr Big CD. The song is Merciless and the solo is simply inspiring.
So this may turn into a series of lessons ... on Mr. Big solos. Kind of like the Van Halen Sessions (probably would've categorized it as such had we planned it to turn into such a thing ... oh well). This is the second lesson we've done on Mr Big solos ... the first being "Wind Me Up". We received a lot of great comments and emails and requests for more. So here we are with more.
In this lesson we will start as always with a discussion of the rhythm part. We'll also chat some about the Marshall JCM1 50th anniversary amp I'm using in this lesson. That all takes up most of part 1 of this lesson (sorry about that ... a lot of yapping).
But then in parts 2 and 3 we move on to the solo. There are some really cool ideas and concepts that make up this solo. One idea in particular that is a simple shape or pattern moved up the guitar neck giving different tonalities. It's a really great idea ... simple and easy to immediately incorporate into your own playing ... which if you've followed any of my other lessons ... I'm all about the concept of incorporating what you learn into your own playing.
Usually I describe a little about the guitar player that we are doing a lesson on ... however if you're watching this lesson you are probably very familiar with Mr Paul Gilbert. He is one of the most highly regarded guitar players and guitar instructors out there. Check our our other lesson on "Wind Me Up" if you haven't already ...

... I chat a bit about him and his profound influence he had on me while I first starting out learning. Also check out the video description on that video ... there I also talk a bit about him.
Ok ... hope you enjoy this lesson and continue to check out our videos. We have a lot of fun things planned for the future, hope you stick around ...
