Many of us find the classic chorus effect you get from a guitar pedal to sound cheesy, but other forms of modulation don't offer the same promise of making a track sound bigger. In this video I walk through an example of using different type of modulations and the time-honored practice of actually playing your instrument to produce what is, to me, a much more satisfying and rich sound.
The riff used to demonstrate the effect is a simple one from an as-yet unreleased song of mine. It's important to use parts that you know you can duplicate precisely so it doesn't sound sloppy, which is pedestrian but sound advice (if I may offer it) for recording songs in general!
