Binky Griptite is a songwriter, producer, and vocalist best known as the guitarist and emcee for Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings. Binky was born Franklin Delano Stribling in 1966. He started performing professionally in his hometown of Milwaukee, where he played blues, rock, and pop covers. He later moved to Minneapolis, where he met Jellybean Johnson, and then to New York City in 1996. In 1999 he became an original member of Antibalas, with whom he played for six years. In 1999 he joined the original Soul Providers band, led by Philip Lehman and Gabriel Roth. When Lehman and Roth parted ways, Binky stayed with Roth, who founded The Dap-Kings. They are currently touring I Learned the Hard Way, their latest album. He has been a session musician for Amy Winehouse, Janet Jackson, Beyonce, Lee Fields, Mark Ronson, Duffy, Lily Allen, and Bob Dylan. He is also the current producer, songwriter, and music director for The Impressions. He has recorded four songs with the group so far.
