The Paul Reed Smith 408 Semi-Hollow features an Artist Grade flame maple top on a semi-hollow mahogany body. The vintage sunburst finish makes the grain in the wood really pop, so be sure to take a look at the photos. Check out the single F-hole above the bridge - classy, soulful and subtle. Rather than the 408's usual rosewood board, this one sports an ebony board, a denser wood that provides a slightly "bouncier," more precise feel. The inlays are birds, but they've been given a makeover as well: green ripple abalone outlines with green select centers. They're the same birds usually used on Artist Grade models. The ebony headstock veneer features the old-school "pre-factory" eagle inlay and no writing, including on the truss rod cover.
But this guitar is still unmistakably a 408. It has the same pickup system that sets the 408 apart from other guitars. The bridge pickup is a bit fatter than your average humbucker, and the neck pickup is a bit slimmer. The result is an increased tonal spectrum with tighter lows and more definition in the high-end. And don't forget about the 408's two mini toggle switches. Split the coils on either pickup, and you'll get absolutely zero volume loss. The PRS Trem and Phase III locking tuners are alive and well, and the hardware is hybrid.
