Today at ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com, we're wading through the Texas Flood from CAST Engineering. The Texas Flood is an overdrive inspired by Cesar Diaz's contribution to the tone of the legend himself. The goal of the Flood was to retain all the bite and dynamics of the original Diaz modified circuit while giving players access to a wider palette of tones. The Flood is not just another Tube Screamer, and gives you a deceptively simple control setup, consisting of Drive, Level and Tone. These three controls are very interactive, yielding many sweet spots. The sound of the Flood will cut through any other box placed before or after it, so your tone isn't swallowed by other pedals. The Flood can run even at 18 volts, which lends it an exceptional headroom and only emphasizes its stacking ability. When set correctly, the Texas Flood will absolutely nail SRV tones, but that's only at one position. Other knob combinations yield clean boost, low-gain drive and some Texas-style crunch that gives your amp what-for. Like all CAST Engineering pedals, the Texas Flood is built by hand in the States using the finest components available and shines as bright as the Texas star with 3 illuminated knobs.
