This Custom 22 is from PRS's Private Stock team. For those of you unfamiliar with PRS, Private Stock guitars are the best instruments they offer. They're hand-built by a phenomenally talented team that works with the master Paul Reed Smith himself.
This instrument features an African ribbon mahogany body with a Private Stock curly maple top. This top wood is unmatched. It's that clean, nearly perfect maple that makes the guitar look like a work of art. The Mocha Burst finish pulls the subtle contours out of the wood. Check out the photos to get an idea.
The neck and fretboard of this guitar are Brazilian rosewood. Quite possibly the best tonewood in the world, Brazilian rosewood is increasingly rare on new instruments. It sounds incredible, but it also lets you feel the vibrations of the music in your playing hand much more than usual. For inlays, this axe has 14 karat gold birds. Good luck finding those on another guitar. Electronically, there are two 57/08 pickups. Ask anyone and they'll tell you that these might be the best pickups PRS has ever made. They're wound with some of the same wire that was used to wind a lot of the coveted pickups from the '50's, and they have an open, responsive and articulate sound that thrives in just about any musical setting.
