The AKG C414 has long been one of the essential studio microphones. The C414 XLII is a redesign of the classic that features improvements in sound, usability and aesthetics. One reason for the 414’s lasting popularity is its versatility. A switch on the front panel selects between the five common polar patterns (cardioid, wide cardioid, hyper-cardioid, figure-8, and omni).
Four of the five settings offer a second sub-polar variation, totaling nine discrete response patterns. An LED indicates which pattern is selected, and serves as a peak indicator as well. Two more switches control three pre-attenuation pads and three low-cut filters. A shockmount and a metal carrying case are included.
