Ben Wright takes us through a bass focused overview of the new Imperial Germanium Fuzz.
Our Imperial Germanium is our take on the venerable Muff circuit, equipped with an extremely potent and rare quiver of devices: one JFET, two low-gain Tesla-branded Germanium devices from the Czech Republic and two BC183, with each part audited for hedonistic fuzz textures.
The Tesla transistors help even out the gain profile and EQing for a truly harmonious fuzz experience that is far greater than the sum of its parts. The gain structure of the Imperial Germanium is overhauled with the addition of the precious metal for a more complete sonic profile and a refined sense of dimension and tonal detail. Simply exquisite.
The Imperial Germanium is voiced differently from your commoner Muff, gaining a new trick in the process. Thanks to the JFET input, this fuzz cleans up with the guitar’s volume like no other Muff in the long lineage of the circuit. The tapers of the controls have been refined for more versatility, and the tone circuit has been tastefully reworked.
Our three-way mids toggle puts the growl back in the signal by introducing extra midrange so your tone won’t flee the keep when other instruments are present, staying tight in the mix. The result is the most positively regal example of the Imperial’s royal bloodline yet, and you’d be remiss to not pay respects.
