Welcome back to Friends Pick Friday! Today in the shop we have Matt Rieger, guitar player in The Lil Smokies, and definitely one of the best people you could have with a guitar around a campfire - he's a talented player and just a great guy to spend time with! Definitely check out the Lil Smokies on your digital store or streaming platform of choice, and of course at www.thelilsmokies.com.
Funny enough, Matt scooped up our boy Skyler Mehal on the way to the shop, so stick around because we got the two of them jammin' out on both guitars to one of Matt's original tunes!
For instruments today, settled on two beautiful boutique acoustics - a 12-fret 'concert' size and a Northwest-built full-size! Starting with the smaller of the two (and one that Matt was absolutely in love with) we have a 2015 Steve Kovacik 'Ditson Concert', which is a fantastic reproduction of the Martin instrument by the same name. It features a solid Spruce top and Brazilian back/sides, with a comfy v-shape to the neck and a roomy 1-7/8" nut width. The other instrument today, a Schenk RD-10 (built in Silverdale, WA), is a beautifully built and designed acoustic featuring an Adirondack Spruce top and also has Rosewood back and sides. This instrument is loud, projects wonderfully, and has a punchy low end with lots of clarity. The level of detail on this guitar is seriously impressive!
