New York based record producer, rapper, and Berklee School of Music professor Thavius Beck guides us through sound design using Mariana, creating an entire track with multiple elements in Ableton Live with all sounds generated by Mariana.
In this first video, Thavius builds up a bass sound with Mariana. First, we get oriented with Mariana and look at how to assign modulation from Ableton’s Push 3 controller for more performative and reactive sounds. Then, Thavius dives deeper into Mariana’s controls, looking at how to get started synthesizing a bass sound using Mariana’s Oscillators, Sub-Oscillator, and Filters. Finally, he shows us how to use the Controllers view and Modulation Editor to get the LFOs and Random generators adding movement and animation to his bass patch.
