Next year, Richard Hoover's Santa Cruz Guitar Company will mark its 40th anniversary in the business. Hoover and team continue to produce some of the finest fretted instruments available, and three-quarters of their output remain custom orders. We caught up with Hoover at last month's NAMM show, and he gave us a tour of a very special guitar--what he calls a "dream come true"--that utilizes some of the primo material that he's stashed away over the years. The back and sides are made of Brazilian rosewood harvested almost 100 years ago, and the spruce he used for the top he's had since 1982. The fretboard is loaded with Tahitian mother-of-pearl, too. - See more at:
