Next at ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com, we get a look at the Super Hornet from Greer Amps. The Super Hornet is based off a vintage Foxx Tone Machine that comes from Nick Greer's personal pedal horde, selected for its sweet sound. The pedal was dissected and recreated especially for fuzz lovers, bringing sweet octave fuzz to the table. The Super Hornet combines two distinct fuzz voices, which can be mixed or separated at will. The base fuzz sound is buttery smooth, with a far-reaching Tone control that sounds great at any position, as well as a Volume control that provides an obscene amount of output. The toggle switch provides two different ways of accessing the harmonic-rich upper octave mode. In the "up" position, the octave is permanently engaged, but when the switch is down, the octave effect diverts to Stinger mode. This mode transfers the octave function to the momentary footswitch, which gives you the ability to zap in precise octave stabs on certain notes or short passages. The octave effect is incredibly responsive and powerful, reacting well to changes in your guitar's pickup selection as well as its volume and tone knobs. The octave-up fuzz plays like an analog pitch shifter when played above the 12th fret, sounding crisp and clear with just a touch of ring modulation for texture. No vintage-spec pedal would be complete without vintage-spec parts, and the Super Hornet uses a grip of new-old-stock BC-107B silicon parts for a hint of mojo. To top it all off, each Super Hornet is hand-built in Athens Georgia by Nick Greer's team of tone gurus.
