Sound examples played by Dirk van Coevorden from TFOA.
Vintage Gibson J-35 Natural acoustic guitar from 1939. The J-35 model first appears in 1936, first called the "Trojan" it was quickly renamed. The J-35 was a no frills, low cost jumbo with a spruce top and mahogany back and sides. The J-35 was produced up until 1942 when Gibson introduced the J-45. This J-35 was made in 1939 which was the first year that the natural finish was offered, it was also a transitional year from the 3 tone bar- to 2 tone bar bracing, this one has 2 tone bar bracing (non scalloped). This instrument shows a special non-bookmatched 2-piece spruce top, one-piece mahogany back, mahogany sides, C-shaped mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard with dot inlays, rosewood bridge, firestripe pickguard, Gibson script logo and Kluson tuners. It goes without saying that this is a fantastic sounding and well kept instrument, there's truly no substitute for a real vintage Gibson. Condition is excellent, looks amazingly clean for it's age with only expected signs of use and playwear, has had neck reset/refret, shows one repaired top crack (repaired and supported, top/treble side from soundhole to fretboard), replugged bridge/bridgeplate which has been re-attached using two bolts covered up by two pearl dot inlays and some minor repairs on the top kerfing. 628mm (24 3/4") scale length, 44mm (1 3/4") nutwidth and 57mm (2 1/4") string spacing. Includes newer hardshell case.
