Today we’re delivering another killer episode of Show Us Your Junk featuring Platinum record producer and musician, Barb Morrison. Barb’s known for producing artists such as Blondie, Rufus Wainwright, Franz Ferdinand, among many others, and is also an ASCAP feature film composer. They were immersed in the mid-80s New York punk scene as a young teenager, playing shows at clubs in New York's East Village, most notably CBGB. They eventually found themselves performing with The New York Dolls, and later joined the band Gutterboy as a saxophonist and singer, touring with acts like The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Ramones in the late 80s.
These days you can find Barb soaking in nature at their home and studio in rural Frenchtown, New Jersey. Their historic house, built in 1739, has some interesting stories attached to it, and is a welcoming sanctuary for recording artists.
We met Barb while recording a session with guitar whiz Gina Volpe of Lunachicks. We were honored to get a glimpse into Barb's philosophy on being a producer and their approach to working with musicians, and how their early influences as a young musician and producer shaped their sound.
