Hey it's Andy with ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com, today we're visiting the kingdom of the Katzenkönig, from our friends at Catalinbread. The Katzenkönig is a distortion/fuzz hybrid that takes the guts from two beloved dirt boxes—the Tone Bender MkII and the RAT—and scrambles them together in the most pleasing ways. The pedal begins with an Input sensitivity knob which decides how much signal is fed into the gears of the Tone Bender, so it acts as a second guitar volume knob to help cleanup the signal or tighten up humbuckers. The gain (2nd stage) controls the negative feedback which gives you usable setting across the whole range, even all the way down. The Filter knob that everyone knows from the RAT circuit received a serious facelift, and is now useful throughout the full range of motion. You'll find the Gain and Input to be highly interactive and able to dial up sparkling medium-gain overdrive, wooly distortion or ultra-saturated, amp dissolving fuzz when cranked. The Katzenkönig is outfitted with royal components like all Catalinbread pedals, and is hand-built with loving care in Portland, Oregon.
