To shim or not to shim... that is the question. Answer: SHIM. Sometimes when setting up a guitar, you get to the point where you have done everything you can, but can still hear fret buzz or dead notes when bending. Often times this is because the neck needs a shim.
In this video I show how to make a neck shim out of a cereal box cardboard for my friend’s Fender Telecaster (works on Stratocaster too). Believe it or not, a thin piece of card is all you need. You can do this on any bolt on neck guitar, Fender, squier, Ibanez, Godin... as long as it has a bolt on neck, a shim is very useful. If you have a glued in neck like an Epiphone of Gibson, this method will obviously not work.
