This is one of the Les Pauls made in the very first year of production. Therefore is has No Serial (this was before Gibson used serial numbers on these guitars) Gibson's first Les Paul generation. The very earliest Les Paul models also had fretboards with no edge binding and the lead pickup had diagonal mounting screws. This is one of the guitars made later in 1952 therefore it has the binding on the neck and the regular mounting screws..
The 1950s Les Paul guitars were officially called the “Les Paul” model. This quickly became known as “GoldTop” due to the gold top finish. Although most Gold Tops have exactly that, a gold colored maple top with a natural brown back. The gold finish was clear lacquer with bronze powder. As a result a greenish hue can be seen on many Gold Tops where the bronze particles in the finish oxidize (mainly due to human sweat contact). This gives the guitar a nice aged look.
Mahogany body and neck, maple top, worn Gold finish with one touch up near the horn, rosewood board with origional slightly shrunken inlays, original vintage frets with minor fretwear and still very playable, original pickups and tuners, electronics, Grey Tiger capacitors, Trapeze, knobs etc. a very good player and one to own! more pics to follow.
