Sinse the Fender Bassbreaker came onto the market, I wanted one. Like really bad wanted one. I watched just about every review and demo of the bassbreaker on youtube. Finally I picked a used one up on craigslist... man am I disappointed! The tone is great, but there is a soft, but loud enough, noise that makes it unplayable. After doing many Google searches, I discovered that many bassbreakers have major noise issues. My friend and fellow youtuber Shane from InTheBlues told me in a live chat that they are known for those issues, but I found out about a week too late.
I just replaced the tubes with brand new JJ tubes and that did not help. I'm making this video so that if you are looking to buy one, you make sure to listen carefully to the issue of noise before buying.
There is a distinct pulsing sound when the amp is in mute/standby and when I turn in on there is a constant buzz and hum coming through the speaker. When the reverb is turned up it gets even worse. None of the other knobs effect it. This is very frustrating that Fender would let these amps out without fixing the issue. Playing the amp at low volumes and recording with a mic would be impossible to have a good noiseless sound. Since I bought it used, the warranties to not apply. Fender if you have a solution to this issue, please let me know and I will be happy to try and fix it.
Shane from InTheBlues recently uploaded a video discussing the quality control issues at Fender amps.
