Keeley's Halo Core takes the essential features from the original Halo (an Andy Timmons / Keeley collaboration) and packages them into a super-easy interface with three big knobs, two footswitches and front-mounted stereo i/o. You can choose to tap-tempo quarter note, dotted eighth or Halo algorithm delays and secondary functions give you control over High Pass Filtering, Delay Saturation and general Tone. The Halo Core can easily be switched between buffered or true bypass and trails or no trails (no case opening necessary). If you want to run the Halo in a parallel effects loop you can also choose between all-wet or wet-dry modes. But mostly it's about the sound which is pretty euphoric.
I usually make a bunch of videos for any given pedal, only releasing what I think does the product justice. This was an improv I made for fun with the Strandberg NX8, just to try to coax as many textures and classic tones from the Halo Core as I could.
Signal path: The Strandberg NX8 is seeing a PRS Archon Clean Channel model with 2 x Dumble EV12L 4x12 IR's courtesy of the Axe-FX III, running left and right for the stereo field. There's only one other effect which is a Pi Muff at the front of the chain (you'll know when I kick that in).
I love that you can very easily coax flanging, chorus, slapback and full-on ambient echo tones from Halo Core in seconds. It's a truly glorious sounding and very intuitive device, which is not surprising considering the people behind it.
This video is clearly a chatty one, but there's a no-chat-jam demo at https://youtu.be/RkcRYm-XjIs and another chatty demo at https://youtu.be/vGuMnqYcOcE
Another winner from the house of Keeley!
