Next at ProGuitarShop and ToneReport, Andy is jamming with the Authentic Hendrix series pedals from Dunlop. This set of five pedals encapsulates Jimi’s legendary tone and the pedals he used to achieve it. Despite the era’s limited offerings, Jimi made the most of what was available to him, and Dunlop’s compact Authentic Hendrix Series delivers each device Jimi used live with all the modern conveniences. The Hendrix Series kicks things off with a trio of fuzz tones that encompass his entire fuzz usage. The JHM5 Fuzz Face uses a handful of carefully chosen parts and a duo of BC108 transistors to closely mirror his lead tone. One of Jimi’s most iconic effects is reborn into the JHM6 Octavio, which was gives you blistering octave-up tones that were found on several Hendrix classics. Jimi’s fuzz section is only complete with the addition of the JHM8 Gypsy Fuzz, originally found as a mysterious white-knob Fuzz Face enclosure that was confirmed to be a highly-modified Octavio. The Gypsy Fuzz delivers screaming fuzz tones with a refined sound and smooth top end thanks to a new tone control. No Hendrix-style pedalboard would be complete without the swirling undulation of the vibe pedal, found in the collection as the JHM7 Univibe. This recreation contains a Vibe switch that kills the dry signal and delivers a seasick-style pitch vibrato that adds a new dimension to your playing. Finally, and perhaps most iconic of all, is Jimi’s wah tone, found in the collection as the JHM9 Cry Baby Mini. This miniature-sized wah pedal gives you all the oomph and funky quack of Jimi’s original vintage unit but at a fraction of the cost and size. And just like the man himself, each of the pedals in the Dunlop Hendrix Series are made right here in the States.
