You just heard the EHX Tortion JFET Overdrive/Preamp. Electro-Harmonix gave this pedal the same feel and tonal control of a raging tube amp by using a multi stage analog circuit with a powerful set of tone shaping tools. The 3 band EQ gives you complete control over the Bass, Mid, and Treble content while the 4 position Pre-Gain switch tackles the signal earlier in the circuit with various Fat and Tight voices. With all this control you still have the option to add a 4th gain stage to the Normal channel by hitting the Boost switch.
The Boost mode takes over the Normal channel's Vol and Gain, essentially giving you a second preset level of output and saturation like a channel switching amp. Electro-Harmonix also takes this pedal to new heights by including a DI output that uses an all analog amp/cabinet simulator for going straight into the mixer. The Boost SW jack lets you add a second switch to remotely activate the Boost channel, a great way to step into those leads without being confined to your pedalboard.
