Wendy Melvoin composed the iconic guitar intro for Prince's "Purple Rain" by taking the chords provided by Prince and adding more "space" and open strings. The original recording was done with her modded Rickenbacker guitar with G&L pickups and Boss CE-1 Chorus in front of a Mesa Boogie Mark I amplifier (in mono).
