The WMD/SSF VC Mini Slew is a very versatile module that can be used as an envelope generator, LFO, or Slew Limiter. It has a slew of ins and outs and is a very useful module in 8hp.
In this video, Alex goes over how to use it as a slide generator or "portamento" function for creating cool fluid note changes that emulate the sound of a Roland TB303 bassline synthesizer, which is now the standard bass machine for acid style house music.
He uses the Arpitecht to make a simple sequence and then runs the 1V/octave signal through the Mini Slew to force slide only on certain steps of the sequence as well as only when the sequencer transitions up or down in voltage.
NOTE: One of our SD cards failed after shooting this video, making it so that we only had one close up angle of the case. This unfortunately forced us to leave out the angle where you can see the rest of the patch. We found that the video is still easy enough to understand without the overview camera angle so we continued with the edit and upload. Another MiniSlew video will come soon and we will be sure to cover this topic again, although a little more quickly.
Enjoy!
