Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com.Today we're at the alter of Keeley's Holy Fuzz. After a short run in 2014, the Holy Fuzz was unobtainable without their special batch of germanium transistors. Well, Robert Keeley recently stumbled onto a stash of NOS Mullard OC75 germanium transistors, and so the Holy Fuzz was reborn for a limited run in 2017. The Holy Fuzz circuit began life as a part-for-part recreation of the classic Tone Bender MKIII, a fuzz circuit with a deep lineage and mojo-drenched tone. Like the original MKIII, the Holy Fuzz gives out a wide range of vintage tones from sparkling boost to ripping velcro fuzz with just a turn of your guitar's volume knob. When tinkering with the original circuit, Keeley and company happened upon a crucial circuit bend that resulted in a strange but musical gating effect. A potentiometer was placed in between both circuit points and the result is an extremely sensitive and interactive control that offers up a wide range of versatility. Adding the Gate knob to the mix lends a distinct flavor to every knob combination, and the gating circuit is off with the knob rolled fully counter-clockwise. Turning up the Gate knob introduces all sorts of chaos into the mix, from stuttering gasps of fuzz to 8-bit chiptune-esque squelches. The Gate knob is extremely responsive to slight tweaks of every parameter including the ones on your guitar, and each circuit is expertly tuned to adapt to the sensitive parts within. And like all Keeley's pedals, the Holy Fuzz is hand-made by real people in Oklahoma, USA.
