Misc Damned Notes:
First punk single in the UK.
First UK punk band at CBGB
Lemmy called them the true punk band.
Cap called US crowd "horribe American shitcunts".
Started off with members of the Clash & Generation X.
Sid Vicious was supposed to sing.
Rat invented punk spitting.
New rose is about the punk scene.
Rat scabies and Cap cleaned toilets.
First gig was a folk scene bar with a 3 legged attack dog
Stiff was one of the first indie labels
New Rose was recorded in one day at Pathway Studios for 50 quid
Could not fit two people in the room. 2 days to record whole album. They recorded over a demo. There was folk music that was faint because they recorded over an old tape and got crosstalk. It was live and singer read behind the door so he could hear himself over the din. They captured the essence, the excitement. It was a cupboard pathway demo studio a backroom in the garage. They wiped the tape so you can't get a remix.
That place had VIBE Dire Straits for a bigger deal because the initial album recording of
Sultans of swing was so epic it got record labels scrambling so they went back to do another version for a single. That led to them rerecordibg a tighter version for the album.
Gibson SG with Vibrola
Hiwatt and Sound City link
The Hiwatt was started in the 60's by ex sound city and Mullard employee so they became quickly famous.
Arbiter Electronics Fuzz Face. Sound City was at 22 Rupert Street.
Hendrix used the Cabs
Brian James = Hiwatt Fane-loaded 4x12
My fane are from a carlsborough, hh or Hiwatt cab?
The quality of the components used MULLARD was military spec, from the potentiometers and resistors, all the way through the large output transformers of Partridge, were among the best that could be sourced for Hiwatt amplifiers.
Baltic birch construction and bracing
50-watt Fane! Back then blackbacks etc were 30 watt.
The cabinets themselves also marked a technology first as far as guitar cabinets were concerned as they featured a rear port on the bottom backside, which allowed the speaker cones to have more excursion and deliver more low-end response through the back of the port. All cabinets were straight front designs as well – which also allowed for more airspace volume overall which further helped increase low frequency response.
"Burns bass" , because 'that guitars got my name on it' (on cover of 'New Rose' sleeve). Location unknown.
when Bryan and Rat reformed he used a Tele and a JCM800.
Strange german vid https://youtu.be/huyKKrQBdnM
Brian James: His backing vocals were underated and a huge part of live and new rose single IMO.
Make a point of how cool they are
Image plus song with a huge singalong chorus. Attitude of ratt and majesty of the singer
Second Album: Nick mason Floyd drummer produced at Pink Floyd's own studio which was huge for them but too soon. Rat got beat up in a hotel room and the band watched and he thought the gang element was lost. Bryan was most linked with Rat so when that was lost Bryan left too. Capt Sensible was devastated. He went into a cinema and it was ABBA the movie. Crying in punk gear. Brought out
Lemmy joined and called themselves the doomed.
Cursed band?
Love song video they ended up in a punch up. The bass player was a mess at the time.
