"It feels powerful. That's one of the reasons I generally enjoy playing the bass over the guitar. The guitar is exact and it is an instrument that can absolutely sound more beautiful, but the bass just has power. This is a big instrument. I'm making a big sound and there is some primal part of me that enjoys that a lot."

So says Jacob, a 14-year-old student at the School of Rock in Scottsdale, Ariz., who feels he has found confidence through playing music.
