As the son of a Philadelphia lawyer, Garrett Dutton grew up in a world of privilege. He cut his teeth as a kid playing acoustic guitar and harmonica (mounted on a wire rack like his hero Bob Dylan). He even went on to play around the then-emerging neo-folk scene in Cambridge, Massachusetts. But inspired by old-school hip-hop acts, Dutton reinvented himself and in the early ’90s formed bluesy alternative hip-hop band G. Love and Special Sauce.
That’s the Dutton with whom most music fans are familiar.
Still, AG couldn’t resist asking Dutton to dig back into his roots for an episode of Acoustic Guitar Sessions .
