AG Sessions is pleased to present the phenomenal Julian Lage, who shares a few tunes from his new solo release, World's Fair, and discusses everything from his enormous stylistic range to his brand-new Waterloo guitar.
Still just 27 years old, guitarist Julian Lage has already made a huge impact on the music world. After first making a name for himself playing straight-ahead jazz with the legendary vibes player Gary Burton, Lage has branched out in a variety of directions--bluegrass and fiddle tunes with Chris Eldridge, avant-jazz with Nels Cline, and almost everything in between. During our far-ranging conversation, Lage talks thoughtfully about developing his own guitar voice, his impressive genre-hopping, and how he's able to maintain a "delicate touch" on his instrument.
Of course, his astounding solo-guitar work is featured as well on three tunes, including an inventive, engaging take on the Elizabeth Cotten classic "Freight Train."
