Today we’re keeping it lit with the Lamplighter Optical Compressor from Greer Amps. Inspired by Greer’s extensive time spent in recording studios, the Lamplighter was designed with the intent to fix the pitfalls of compressors while retaining superior tone. To address these problem areas, the Lamplighter was designed to give compression that mixed with your tone instead of subtracting from it, with a transparent character and a boatload of options befitting a studio tribute. Most compressors excel at a handful of compression settings, but the Lamplighter is designed to remain musical at all settings, from subtle to intense compression. The range of the Compress knob is enormous and is coupled with the Comp Mix knob to offer a huge range of classic compressor tones, including clean boost with the Mix control all the way down. Even with both knobs dimed, the Lamplighter is engineered to have the lowest possible noise floor, so you can ratchet up the compression without fear. A central toggle changes the release time of the compression, with three different times available, from fast release times for subtle compression to slow release times that are perfect for slide players. The handy Treble control adjusts the tonal range of the entire pedal, regardless of compression settings. And just like all Greer pedals, the Lamplighter is made one at a time right here in the States.
