Today we’re driving the 1959 Double Decker, from Gurus Amps. The 1959 is an all-in-one drive and boost skeleton key, featuring two separate dirt channels and an additional Boost channel. Both channels share the 12ax7 tube preamp that sits front-and-center, but that’s where the sharing ends. Each channel gets a juicy three-band EQ in addition to Gain and Volume controls. Both channels are complimented by a Solo boost channel, which can be used independently or on either channel. The 1959 is operated with radio-style switching, so that only one drive channel is active at any given time. When channel one is activated, the other automatically turns off (including the boost), saving you a few stomps on stage. An effects loop on the back allows users to run effects mixed in with the drives, and a toggle switch allows the effects loop to be used in series with the drive or in parallel for some full-spectrum processing options. There’s also an auxiliary jack on the rear, which is switchable between a DI-out and a cab emulator. The cab sim is voiced to sound specifically like a vintage-30-loaded 2x12 cab, close-miked with a Shure Sm57, ensuring that the 1959 punches its ticket to the recording studio. Each 1959 Double Decker is housed in a laser-etched enclosure and hand-made in Italy.
