Welcome back to Proguitarshop.com, today we're going over the El Capistan dTape Echo from Strymon. This compact pedal is packed with 3 virtual tape echoes that shaped the music from the 50's onward and thanks to Strymon's dedication and technical know-how using dTape algorothms, they've faithfully recreated the sound, saturation and nuances of these beloved machines.
Start with the tape head switch to select how the tape machine operates, either with a sliding tape head and fixed motor speed like the Echoplex or with a variable motor and multi-head setup like the Space Echo. Each types contains their own inherent characteristics and can go from a freshly calibrated studio echo to a grungy repeat full of natural sounding saturation, tape crinkles and bandwidth reduction. All these factors can be controlled by the knobs you see on the outside like Wow and Flutter and Tape Age along with secondary functions accessed by holding both footswitches (low contour, bias, tape crinkle and boost/cut). As a bonus, Strymon includes an accurate spring reverb that can be mixed into any mode. Modern features include stereo operation, tap tempo, a favorite preset switch or expression pedal control for any knob parameter. The El Capistan also gives you true bypass or trails, high quality A/D D/A audio converters and analog dry signal to maintain your guitar's natural tone.
