Minimoog Model D -

This run of Minimoog Model D synthesizers is as authentic a recreation as they are able to make. They will be handcrafted just as the Minimoog Model D's produced from 1970-1981. They have had an American semi-conductor company remake the TIS97, TIS93, and TIS92 transistors to exact specs so that the filters and VCAs retain their original properties and characteristics. The intrinsic sound engine and overall form factor are maintained, however a handful of new features have been added.

Behringer Model D -

Behringer's long awaited (and slightly cheeky!) take on one of history's most defining analog synthesizers is finally here! This is a module based quite clearly on the front panel of a certain 'Mini' synth from the seventies. That particular synth has found itself on more recordings up until the mid 80s than probably any other in existence and is still one of the first choices for musicians and producers looking for that specific fat, expressive sound. The trouble is, original models are not only hard to find, they are prohibitively expensive. Software plugins do the job up to a point but in this age of analog revival and eurorack popularity, Behringer have obviously hit on a wise move to make an extremely affordable hardware version of this famous synth.

Behringer have followed things right down the line: from the famous ladder filter (24db with resonance control) to the 5 oscillator shapes and matched internal circuit parts, everything here is as close to a facsimile as a Chinese factory-produced piece of hardware can be to a handmade American device. Even the type and colours of the controls are similar (the red and blue ones are in opposite places for a slightly 'uncanny valley' vibe)!

We think that an analog desktop synth at this price is stupendous value, regardless of the perceived provenance. If you approach the Model D with an open mind, there is a lot to love, not least the price!
