Alex Somers
The 26-year old musician Alex Somers, who grew up in Boston USA, is a man with many different talents. Other than being an incredibly gifted guitar player and producer for the famous Icelandic singer Jónsi, he has appeared in several bands and expresses himself as a visual artist in many different contexts.
As a producer, guitarist, artist and many other things, Alex Somers has engaged himself in a broad variety of projects throughout which he has established himself as the acclaimed multi talent he is today.
He is the producer on Jónsi's new album 'GO', released April 2010, and has appeared in several Icelandic bands. Furthermore he creates the digital art used during Jónsi's concerts as well as the graphical design for several of Sigur Ros' and Jonsi's CD-covers, which he has even received a prestigious Icelandic award for. Alex Somers is known for his alternative use of instrument and choice of recording settings, as he with his band Parachutes records their albums in his living room and kitchen, while using different kinds of kitchen appliances to create intriguing new sounds.
Besides being one of the founders of Parachutes and both producer and guitarist etc. in Jónsi's band, Alex and Jónsi have founded their own duo called Riceboy Sleeps. Together they create ethereal and experimental music and art together in the forms of drawings, paintings, videos and books -- and among those even a cookbook!
