Welcome back to Friends Pick Friday, and today we have the wonderful Naomi Wachira in the shop! Naomi is a Seattle based afro-folk singer/songwriter who was born in Kenya, and started her musical journey singing gospel music with her friends and family, and has since grown to being a forse to reckon with as her music transforms the ups and downs of life and love to beautiful songs that she hopes can (in the words of her parents) "leave a place better than she found it".
You can find Naomi's music, story, shows, and social media outlets on her website www.naomiwachira.com
For instruments today, we have three wonderful acoustic guitars in different forms - from vintage parlor to modern nylon classical, and a transformed lap steel that now lives its life as a dreadnought! Starting with the modern, we have a 2011 Taylor 812ce-N, a cutaway nylon string with Taylor's excellent ES-N electronics that make this guitar perfect for live performance. Moving back in time to the 1930s we have both a Lyra Parlor acoustic, which is so comfortable and fun to play, and was the first instrument Naomi gravitated toward upon walking into the shop. The other end of the vintage spectrum, we have a 1938 Oahu that started life as a squareneck lap-steel, and underwent a major transformation to a roundneck jumbo. The cool look of this guitar and the x-braced top compliment each other quite nicely as it's vintage gold-decal draws in the eye and its sound is just to die for!
