Welcome to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com, today we're plugging into the Shin-Juku Drive from MXR. Shin Suzuki of Shin's Music in Japan is the country's foremost amp and pedal technician, and nobody knows the D-style amp quite like him. He brings this knowledge stateside, and the Shin-Juku Drive is a collaboration between the man himself and the engineers of MXR. The result is an extremely touch-sensitive and dynamic amp-like drive that brings as much versatility to the table as the amp it's modeled after. Between its three knobs, you have access to humble, lucid clean tones, all the way through amp-rumbling sustain-heavy crunch. This variance is given with a simple twist of the Gain knob, and when combined with your guitar's volume knob, the possibilities are near-endless. As you might expect, the Shin-Juku stacks with other pedals like a champ, and placing it either before or after your existing drive section will lend some extra hair to your tone. The Dark switch reconfigures the gain structure of the Shin-Juku to a mellower, more blues-ready drive tone with a smokier character. Higher gain Dark settings add extra tube-like sag and compression like a cranked amp. And just like all MXR pedals, the Shin-Juku Drive is precision engineered and manufactured made right here in the States.
