This is the Colour Box from JHS Pedals. Inside this unassuming pedal is JHS' recreation of the legendary Neve preamp which facilitated some of music's most beloved sounds from the 60's and onward.
The all-analog design can be used as both as a leave-on preamp for your rig or as a tone shaping tool for guitar, bass, keys, and microphones. To aid in accepting various inputs, you'll find a combination xlr, ¼" jack as well as two versatile switches for line/instrument level and a -20dB pad. Parallel outputs expand the Colour Box's application, letting you send one signal to your amp and one via XLR to the mixing board or recording interface.
Powerful controls include a Pre-vol which can be used as a drive knob to give your amp rich harmonic overtones your recordings the same unique colouration that original Neve gave the Beatles, Zeppelin and Radiohead. The Step gain control gives you the precision of a studio console with 5 steps that change the behavior of each gain stage. You can add just a little to fatten your amp or as much as 39dB of pure analog fuzzy saturation. The Hi Pass filter allows the Colour box to chisel your sound with a wide sweep from 60-800hz, defeatable by a simple toggle switch. Finally, the Tone controls use a modified Baxandall EQ that allows for boost and cut of Bass, Middle and Treble frequencies. The Colourbox runs on 18volts and it made with high quality components to make this a true studio grade pre including a Lundahl transformer.
