The reimagined Les Paul Studio is a lightweight, ergonomic and sonically versatile revamp of the legendary Gibson solidbody that debuted in 1952. The typical combo of a mahogany body and maple top is front and center for resonance and sustain, but the body is slimmed down and weight relieved for comfort. Playability is further enhanced with a bound, SlimTaper neck. This Les Paul certainly owns its “Studio” designation with flexible tones that offer different textures for recording sessions. First up are those iconic Les Paul humbucker sounds from the dual Burstbucker Pro pickups. Want a more vintage, PAF vibe? Simply use the push-pull pots on the volume knobs to enable coil tapping and reduce the pickup output.
“The way I approach instruments for a certain job is, ‘How hard do I want to work to get to the sound that’s in my mind,’” says Atlanta indie-rocker Zach Person, whose most recent album is Let’s Get Loud. “The Les Paul has a really distinct sound that has been captured on numerous recordings throughout history. With humbuckers, you can push the front end of an amp and get glorious sustain no matter what situation you’re put in. I live on the bridge pickup, and the Burstbucker on this Les Paul Studio does the job and then some. However, Burstbuckers are hot pickups, so it’s nice to have the flexibility to coil tap and get something closer to a vintage PAF sound, because I’m a fan of low-output pickups. I feel they offer more touch sensitivity and dynamics.”
