This song has been with me a very long time. In fact, going all the way back to my earliest YouTube videos you can find an arrangement of it for live guitar performance based on my last studio recording. But it goes back even much farther than that and didn't even begin life in 7/4. It was actually much more complicated. It was an idea I had for using a long sequence of very odd meters while crafting a rhythm, chord progression and bass line all in one part.
This version is the simplest arrangement of the song yet, and this is because it had work within a looping context. I'm actually not mad at it at all ... loopers can act as a sort of editing mechanism and I feel the changes actually serve the song better. Maybe looping is the kind of Art Through Adversity that I've always needed. I can't do anything and everything I can imagine to a song, so I just have to get it done and make it work however I can with the tools available, even if it means some things have to go.
