Easily among our favourite brands, it's tough to beat the bodacious curves, sublime playability and flawless craftsmanship that PRS have come to represent. Rightfully amassing a loyal following of players, PRS have never been wallflowers and their distinctive designs are not just a testament to their builder's ingenuity, but also the confidence they have in their own ideas. However, it's the announcement of a shape that's just a little more familiar that has people talking... Aptly named the PRS Silver Sky, say hello to the latest in the brand's bloodline...
Designed in collaboration with John Mayer, Paul Reed Smith had a vision for his own contribution to the classic S-Style guitar legacy; taking its timeless elements and using them as the platform for a completely modernised and reimagined model. Particularly focusing on 60's production runs, the Silver Sky models have been fitted with a trio of 635JM single-coil pickups to give them a round, full sound with plenty of high-end chime. Their necks were also modelled after 1963/1964 runs and continue to celebrate the feel of a vintage model, giving you a distinctive take on a classic that'll feel familiar as soon as you pick one of these up. The cherry on top of these gorgeous instruments are unmistakable PRS headstocks that've been inverted to both accommodate Mayer's playing style and help them to stay in tune for longer. Along with this, the Silver Sky's have traditional vintage-style, closed-back tuners with PRS's locking design; again embracing the vintage style and modern plability that this range is all about. Other high-quality specifications include a bone nut, a moulded metal jack plate, retooled knobs, fretwire that is slightly smaller than you'd find on most PRS electrics, and PRS's double action truss rod (accessible from the front of the headstock for ease of use).
Promising to be some of the most finely finished and painstakingly built guitars that PRS have to offer, the Silver Sky range give players a distinctive take on a classic and we're really excited to check these beauties out in the flesh. We're expecting these to arrive with us soon but if you simply can't wait, you can check out the full range and pre-order here.
