Alvarez acoustic guitars began life in St Louis, Missouri in 1965 by master luthier Kazuo Yairi. A well known guitar brand in the States, many top players like David Crosby, Thom Yorke, Devin Townsend and Any DiFranco have proudly toted Alvarez guitars live and in the studio.
Nowadays most Alvarez guitars are made to exacting standards in China and distributed all over the world, bringing traditional building techniques, understated good looks and high quality control into the hands of players of all descriptions.
This AD66CE model is a cutaway dreadnought from the Alvarez Artist range. This traditional and handsome acoustic has a Solid African Mahogany top to ensure a strong sound with punchy mids and lots of fundamentals. Layered Mahogany is used for the back and sides. There is lots of focus to this sound and whilst dreadnoughts are great for every type of playing, this excels at fingerpicking.
It’s a clean and crisp look for this AD66CE: a subtle inlay at the 12th fret of the Pau Ferro fingerboard and a tasteful abalone rosette combine with a unique bridge shape and Ivory coloured multi-ply binding make up the quietly good looking visuals of this understated guitar.
Pickup-wise, Alvarez spoil us with an excellent LR Baggs Element pickup with a StagePro EQ built into the side of the body for easy on-stage adjustments. This guitar is ready for the stage!
The AD66CE has a Shadowburst Natural Gloss finish apart from the neck which has been thoughtfully given a semi-gloss finish to support easy hand movement.
If you need a quality affordable acoustic for gigging and recording, this solid-topped AD66CE from Alvarez is an excellent, understated choice.
