Nobody is saying these things are the same… But it’s fun to compare them anyway!
Welcome to the show! Let’s say it from the top. In terms of circuit and tone, the Ibanez TS 9 Tube Screamer and BK Butler Tube Driver are really not the same thing at all… Nevertheless they’re both absolute classics, and they both, erm, have 'Tube' in the name.
To whit, this is a vague excuse to play a couple of my favourite overdrives of all time, and take in a couple of modern alternatives along the way.
While the Mythos Envy Pro Overdrive is very closely related to the Tube Screamer, the Hagerman 12AX7 Overdriver is not designed to be like a Tube Driver. So please don’t be all handbag that we’re not comparing apples with apples – consider it more about context and difference, than comparison and similarity.
We wish Dan a speedy recovery. Enjoy the show!
