Welcome back to Friends Pick Friday, and today we have our friend Jim Franklin in the shop! A connoisseur of Gibson acoustics, Jim is always checking in on our acoustic room to seek out different sounds from vintage acoustics. Funny enough, this time, we were out of vintage Gibsons but he was drawn to a pair of Schenk acoustics that we have on the wall - a RD-10 dreadnought model, and a 2012 Schenk FE Grand Fingerstyle cutaway. Two lovely, top-quality instruments from a local builder in Silverdale, Washington by the name of Rod Schenk! The FE Grand Fingerstyle is built from a Western Red Cedar top with Koa back and sides, while the RD-10 features an Adirondack Spruce top with Rosewood back and sides, leading to two similarly-sized instruments with a vastly different sound and feel to them.
