In this video, we'll revisit the 1960 Stromberg-Carlson SAU-22 PA Amp. We'll tinker some more with the circuit, changing the Master Volume we installed in the last video. We'll look at a couple more types of Master Volume control to add to amps with a cathodyne phase inverter, both pre-phase inverter and post-phase inverter, including a Ken Fischer PPIMV from the Trainwreck Pages. Then we'll troubleshoot some noise issues, replace some tubes and resistors, and then finally figure out what's making the power transformer run so HOT - hot enough to fry eggs! Many of these same mods shown here would work with 6V6, 6L6, EL34 and EL84 output amplifiers as long as they were cathode biased, push-pull amps with cathodyne phase inverters.
