Who loves the Gibson ES series? It would be a logical bet that many of you do - but most people will immediately go to the ES-335 and ES-330... but what we have today is a 1959 ES-345! This model was designed to be a bit more fancy, with the Varitone notch-filter system and stereo output - the engineering side of this design is very interesting, but ultimately didn't catch on in the same way the 335 and 330 did... which results in a nearly identical guitar to the 335, but with the additional controls, and comes in at a significantly lower price in modern days. This one is PAF equipped, has had a great refret by Mark Tossman, and is just a fantastic instrument all around. Today for amplification we're running a Friedman Smallbox 50w head through an excellent 1980 Marshall 1982B cabinet loaded with Celestion G12-80. The Friedman Smallbox 50 is essentially an EL-34 Plexi clone, with a modern high-gain channel and construction - an excellent alternative to a vintage Plexi. Today, we've got our own Karl Van Der Velden on the demo, so strap in!
