Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com, today we're loading up the Warthog from ThorpyFX. The idea behind the Warthog isn't to emulate any existing box, but to create the bar-none best distortion on the market. The Warthog runs the range from crystalline low gain to skin blistering high gain distortion tones. A premium-quality Burr-Brown is the heart of the Warthog, providing its characteristic wide gain range with some real note separation and clarity. Thorpy's Calibre control from the Gunshot makes a second appearance on the Warthog, and it acts as a powerful saturation control for the op-amp. Even subtle adjustments of the Calibre knob will push the core into enough distortion to give an audience second-degree burns. Even though a ton of gain is available via the interplay of the Gain and Calibre knobs, the Warthog is still easily subdued the your guitar's volume knob, featuring some sterling cleanup. The externals of the Warthog are nothing short of awe-inspiring, and the notion carries over to the inside as well, where curious players will find a phalanx of top-shelf componentry. And just like all his pedals, the Warthog is hand-made by Adrian Thorpe in Wiltshire, England.
