In the late 1990s, engineer and luthier Cory Batson started building unconventional acoustic guitars one at a time in his Nashville area workshop. At the 2017 Summer NAMM show he introduced some Korean-made Grand Concert models, whose designs conform as closely as possible to his original boutique instruments in terms of sound and performance.
Custom Batson features like armrests and cantilevered fretboards, as well as Buzz Feiten tuning systems, are now available at relatively affordable price points. Guitarist Lance Allen demonstrates one of these new instruments with his clever arrangement of Oasis’s “Wonderwall.” Street prices from $1599.
