We had a lot of fun picking out the wood for this PRS 408. The top is a beautiful cut of flame maple. For neck and fretboard wood, we really let loose. Rather than the usual mahogany neck, we opted for a korina neck. The fretboard is tonally coveted Brazilian Rosewood, which might be the best tonewood on the planet and is getting harder and harder to find on new and used guitars. Aesthetically, we dressed this guitar up from top to bottom - be sure to check out the Orange Fade finish in the photos. We topped everything off with hybrid hardware, because what's cooler than hybrid hardware? The overall look is bold, artistic and 100% unique.
The PRS 408 is one of the best sounding guitars on the market, so we didn't change anything in terms of pickups or switching options. The bridge pickup is a bit wider than your average humbucker, and the neck pickup is a bit slimmer. This provides a broader tonal spectrum with clean highs, articulate mids and well defined lows. The two mini toggles are intact as well. Switch either pickup to single coil mode, and you'll hear the sound of a real single coil pickup, not a humbucker trying to sound like a single coil. This is the perfect guitar for anyone who wants PRS quality in a totally one-of-a-kind package.
