This riff is all about the groove! The guitar and bass double a funky phrase in the key of F# minor, which alternates between short, staccato notes and a fast hammer-on and pull-off sequence. For the short notes, use downstrokes to add some punch. To get a clean, snappy end relax the fretting finger to kill the sustain. Add palm-muting during the spaces so the pauses last for their full duration. The faster sequence includes several string changes, so use the tip of your pick with slightly less attack than the opening notes. This allows you to hop across the strings more smoothly.
