http://www.guitarBreakdown.com/ - Michael Lawlor is one of those amazing guitar players that will often make you turn your head and say "what the heck did he just play". Then after you realize a lot of the Licks he is playing are Licks very similar to ones that you already play ... the following all important question becomes ... "How does he make it sound so much cooler then I do".
:)
After years of trying to figure it out ... I've come to the conclusion ... it's all in his hands and his Technique. Between his Legato and Hybrid Picking and Dynamic control with his Palm Muting he gets such an amazing fluid sound ... a Tone that is Fat and Percussive and Smooth as can be. It's actually really impressive and inspiring.
Michael Lawlor Is a GIT (Musicians Institute) graduate. He studied there back in it's heyday with some of the greatest guitar instructors like Steve Travato, Scott Henderson, Don Mock, Allen HInds, Dan Gilbert, Paul Gilbert and many more. He took all that he learned there and molded into his own sound.
And years later he is a highly in-demand guitar player in the New York tri-state area. He plays multiple gigs every week and has even opened up for the Great Allan Holdsworth for several shows in the past year.
He also recently won a really cool contest hosted by the amazing Oz Noy and got to spend some time playing with and learning from Oz.
Anyway ... I could go on all day with praise for Mike Lawlor ... but I will leave it to you to judge for yourself. In the coming weeks/months we will have many lessons where mr Lawlor teaches you everything from Hybrid Picking to Wide Interval Licks to Outside Blues Ideas and much more. We've already recorded 7 Lessons with Mike and we are working on several more.
And if that weren't enough ... we are working on a Huge Lesson Package dedicated to Hybrid Picking where Mike dives into the Technique and shows you how to get that smooth, rolling, percussive Hybrid Picking sound. You'll learn tons of Licks and Concepts ... that will help you make this Technique become something that becomes a natural part of your playing. We hope you stick around for all of it.
As for this Lesson ... We bring you Part One of this Series of Hybrid Picking Lessons with Michael Lawlor. In this Free Lesson Mike introduces you to the Hybrid Picking Technique and how to get started using it with the familiar Dorian Scale. Then he takes that same Pattern and Concept and applies it to a Diminished Arpeggio. This is just the tip of the iceberg but it should get you started in understanding and beginning to explore with this awesome Technique.
Alright ... hope you enjoy this Lesson and stick around for more Lessons to come with Guitar Master Michael Lawlor.
And on a side note ...
If you Like the way we teach ... and you like learning from one of the top Guitar Instructors from Musicians Institute ...
