Today we're looking at the Mini Ego Compressor from Wampler Pedals. The Mini Ego is a tiny version of its bigger brother with all the functionality intact. Like its big brother, the Mini Ego contains five controls, Blend, Sustain, Volume, Attack and Tone. With the Blend control, the Mini Ego gives players the invaluable tool of parallel compression, allowing you to blend your guitar's dry signal in with the compression to retain more of your guitar's character and retaining the natural resonance of semi-hollow and hollow instruments. Once you master the Blend knob, the functionality of the Mini Ego is wide-open, and you can dial in any form of compression you've heard on any record, from old-timey country twang and disco spank to transparent warmth and studio-like chime. The Attack and Tone controls have been replaced with toggle switches, for pre-set values that maximize the functionality. These predetermined values correspond to sweet spots on the former knobs that most users left alone, for no-nonsense dialing. The Volume knob is unique in the land of compressors, with plenty of output on tap, letting you use the Mini Ego as a subtle boost or to sweat the front end of the next pedal in your chain. Like all Wampler pedals, the Mini Ego is designed and built to exacting standards right here in the States.
